Since I started going gym, I've noticed something, I think it needs to be addressed!
*slim girl STARE*
Now, what does that mean?
When a slim person (especially a girl) enters the gym people stare at you like... "WHY ARE YOU HERE? YOU'RE ALREADY SKINNY".
Then they silently watch you as you select what machines you will use. Every time you look up they look away. BUT WHY?
You don't know what people's journey or motives are, just as you qualify to attend so do they.
If you like the figure, speak up compliment it won't kill you. If you don't, it's not your body don't carry the unnecessary burden of disliking someone that you don't even know. Continue with the reason you came to the gym for.
I personally feel awkward, it's like a sea of eyes just glaring at you! The most daunting 2secs of my life!
I'm exaggerating, but I'm sure someone can relate. Even when the fully loaded, ripped, chiseled and cut hench guys are all about to do dead-lifts and that one slim guy comes with his 8kg dumbbells. He also gets *the look*
Another thing I would like to vent about is this term "YOU ARE SO SKINNY".
I personally find it rather rude and truly unnecessary. What gives those who are bigger than you by size the right to call you that? When slim people say fat, those who are big in size get beyond offended yet they consider it okay to casually call slim people skinny.
If its out of jealously, please check your insecurities. If you're claiming its banter not everyone laughs at the same joke.
I've always been of a petite frame, maybe genetics played its part there. My immediate family are all slim. Growing up, I didn't consider it bullying but it was something I heard all the time, YOU'RE SO SKINNY! It was like a surname to me. At the time it didn't bother me as much because the family around me where just like me. When I got to college, most girls were thicker, curvier. So the desire to change and put on weight was there. It never worked, I ate and ate and ate, never worked. So I gave up.
I realised it was much easier for me to lose weight then to put it on. I would reach a particular size and my body would just stop expanding. People even said watch when you have kids you'll get bigger. My grandma had 9kids she is slim and wears size 3 shoes! My mum floats around size 10-12 and 14 in certain occasions and she has her own tribe. So genes may have won it this time!
Even at church, I would hear comments such as, "you're so skinny" ... "Your so skinny, look how flat your belly is" < Is that a compliment? Jesus said we should forgive. Amen.
We are all of different sizes and shapes, we need to arrive at a point where we can accept and respect that. Everyone's journey is unique and you don't know what insecurities people have, one sentence can be someone's trigger point that tips them over.
We have become a society that prefers to use negative connotations to describe something good! How backwards is that?
So you have a friend who has been really good to you and is always there for and with you, you call her "bad bitch". So your friend is a bad female dog!
I would prefer to call my friends Queen, beautiful, sister, amazing and so forth. Sorry but why would I want to befriend a female dog. I like goldfishes more.
The "bad bitches" amongst you would have kissed the teeth and probably think I'm boring, old and don't know anything. Fair enough! Everything we do today we slowly write our history on stone, it will not be erased. How would you like to be remembered? We daily impact people's lives, what they say or feel towards you is generally the glimpse that you show them.
We've lost that desire to have our names honoured. It's pretty sad. Your motto can be YOLO but this has always been mine:
Positive thinking keeps one healthy, wealthy and calm-spirited.
Ciao... Bisous!
Born a legend to leave a legacy.
