JemzJourney: EGYPT

Destination: Egypt

Egypt has always been one of those places that I've always wanted to visit, don't ask me why but I've just always wanted to. Guess I've always wanted to see what had become of the land of the pharaohs.

Egypt is a country that connects two continents together Africa and Asia, as certain parts of Egypt are regarded as Asia and not Africa. Well I guess it's probably the residents there themselves regard it as such but who are we to burst their bubble hey?

So I wanted one luxury holiday and it was definitely worth it. I didn't blow out my accounts I planned my life accordingly and I enjoyed my trip!

Accommodation

I flew with Monarch airline and landed at Sharm el Sheikh. I spent my entire holiday at Sharm with the exception of spending a day in Cairo but I returned to Sharm El Sheikh in the evening!

I stayed at the 5* Hilton Waterfalls Sharm resort. My-o-my it was beautiful! Absolutely stunning!
My room was a sea view room and yes it was amazing waking up to this every morning. The only bad thing about sea view is that you're a bit out of range from Hotel Wifi. Bear that in mind when you opt for sea view.

The view from the room was beautiful and there was regular activities going on in the morning and evening. There are several pools around the resorts but the three main ones that I used were the one by the chillaxin area. This area is the quiet zone, you sit in the sun or shade with a good book or music or note book and completely zone out and dip in the pool if you want to.

This was my favourite poolside, I think because I could see it from my room but also it led to the beach. The outdoor bar there made special drinks/cocktails and served the best Ice cream! Ahmed was the guy!! He just knew what we wanted and delivered it.

The last poolside I enjoyed was outside the health club.

I thought I too can sunbathe goodness I was sweating instead of tanning, literally dripping, outdoor sauna it was. I ended up dipping in the pool and I was a lot more dry clothed and walking rather then laying down.

I also went All Inclusive and i really did enjoy it! Saves you money!

Activities

I went completely trigger happy with excursions! The first 3 days were absolutely insane, I was doing something different everyday.

I kicked started my excursions with a hike/climb of Mount Sinai, if you are unfamiliar with the mountain, it is upon this mountain that Moses (from the bible) received the Ten Commandments. The mountain was called the Holy Mountain and Moses Mountain. We left our hotel about 10pm and it took us 2 hours or thereabouts to get to Sinai from Sharm-el Sheikh. We started the hike/climb just before MIDNIGHT and we trekked for about 3.5hours and we climbed about 700 HUGE STEPS to reach the top. Bear in mind this was all down in the dark with 2 torches and phone torch light. We got to the top just before 4am and it was super freezing, we had thick heavy blankets (which you can rent) and wore heavy ponchos (they did not warn us of the cold so we ended up buying these ponchos). However it was so picturesque at the top so surreal. We got there just before sunrise and we waited for the sun to rise. It was by far the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. One of the best experiences ever!

who is that?

On our down, which took about 1 hour, we passed through one was the most oldest Monastries in the world. It was built thereabouts 6th/7th Century and it was a fortress for the early christians. OH and inside the burning bush which Moses saw is said to be stored there.

can you see me?

We returned to our hotel just before noon, we collected some Lunch then went straight to shower and we slept. That same evening I did the 5-in-1 which consisted of; quad biking, camel riding, star gazing, dinner with the Bedouins in Sinai and evening show in the desert. (Similar to the one in Dubai, check out that post). However the quad biking in Sharm was different and so much better than Dubai. We literally rode our quad bikes to all our locations and back. It was so much fun. Instead of driving around and around in circles in the desert we rode to locations. I prefer quad bikes as a method of transportation.

it gets so dusty and sandy this is the only safe way

The following day I literally just wanted to rest and not do anything but hey its me. I lounged by the beach slipping some cocktails and then lo' behold I ended up on a speedboat and then parasailing, *wigglesbum*

the abs were starting to disappear at this point! Blame all inclusive

took this from up in the sky! That Speedboat was something else!

Genena City

That evening I ended up in Old Market and Naama Bay, which is a  lively central, filled with shops for late night shopping, open bars and restaurants. It is live and kicking wayyy past 1am, you will still find loads of people shopping and having a laugh.

Now I didn't end up back at the Hotel until about  2am and I had to be ready to be picked up at 4am to catch a flight to Cairo at 6am. My eyes were burning! I was literally running on two hours sleep.

Finally when we arrived at Cairo, our tour guide met us at the airport and we drove through Cairo!

Our first stop was the Egyptian Musuem

Whilst inside the museum you are not allowed to take pictures, so I was unable to show you what was inside. One thing I love is history, culture and stories so I thoroughly enjoyed myself. They had jewellery, tombs and several artefacts. There are loads of statutes of Pharaohs and the different stories that'll capture your attention. However I know some people feel that the museum does not contain enough Nubian artefacts and content but I think everyone experiences everything differently. So go and see for yourself and you conclude for yourself.

We left the museum we took a boat across the River Nile to have lunch.

Seriously.. lol.. I had to *wiggles bum*

After lunch we drove to GIZA to see the pyramids and the Sphinx.

By then I had given up on life I was exhausted and it was baking literally it was scorching hot! I got a chance to enter the pyramid but they were extremely strict in taking pictures (you might have to bribe them) I was just curious and all I saw was a former tomb, a hole in the ground. However that does not take away from the fact that I saw these HUGE pyramids and was able to go inside one!

We made a few more stops after this but I had completely retired my camera and phone!

The following day I did something I had never done in my life.... DIVING! It was the  best experience ever. Ok, I'll be honest when it was time to actually get into the water, I prayed in tongues, Kimongo, Kikongo and Swahili (research the languages) when I entered the water I saw my life flash before my eyes and my soul wanted to leave my body. The  thing is  I CAN SWIM, AMAZINGLY but God did not make me a fish to breathe under water, I was uber scared. The fear/panic lasted about 30 seconds which felt like eternity but as soon as I had calmed down and my head was under water it was the most fun!

We took a cruise to Tiran Island ,where we had lunch and we did some snorkelling and of course diving! It was such a chilled and mellow day.

diving in the red sea!

Honestly this trip was beyond fun! I had spent the remaining days literally relaxing on the beach or poolside and sipping Egyptian tea with the locals in Naama Bay! My body had retired the activities and it just mellowed out!

Safety

I went to Sharm in October 2015, it was very safe, you could freely walk around and security was tight! After speaking with some of the locals one of the common thing they all said was to not believe the media, as most of them their livelihood was and is dependent on tourism and many of them felt demonised!

One thing I must say was that my black skin was adored, everyone will shout out, "My cousin, my cousin" or "My colour" and they will look at me and say that we are the same. So I did not experience any racial discrimination  at all!

Egypt is one of those places that you ought to experience, it has a wealth of history and culture! I will definitely go again and visit Luxor!

Credit Cards: Yes or A NO-NO?

One thing that you need to understand about the world we live in is that, it runs on debt. We live in a debt fuelled society. From the countries borrowing and owing money to central banks and presidents who put their countries in debit with other countries. Which then fuels down to local banks with credit cards, loans and even store cards. We have been immersed into the life of buy now pay later and we are trained to think that it is ok! We are not afraid anymore of not having money anymore. We can buy all we want now and pay it back later despite the fact that we can actually be paying more than the initial price. However, some people still fear credit cards as though it's the pikin of the devil! Lol Surely there must be a way around this system right? Can we actually use this debt thing to actually work in our favour? There's always a loophole somewhere, can credit cards actually work in our favour? Yes, they can as long as you use it wisely.
